Kia ora, just checking in to see if anyone is still subscribed to this? Is it worth keeping it updated? Happy to do this if it’s useful otherwise we can work off of the Facebook page or both…
Technically its spring but it sure doesn’t feel like it some days. We have had snow up on the mountain and even down into National Park since the end of the season this year! There are quite a few exciting changes going on around the place and I have tried to capture them here for those folks that aren’t around here full time.
1. Piopiotea Stream Project has launched and is aiming to improve water quality and access to the stream over the next 5 years or so. They can be found at: www.facebook.com/PiopioteaStream . Have a look, they are taking a cool approach to this project and getting locals involved in the testing etc.
2. Roy Turner Memorial National Park Community Playground – quite a mouthful but this playground is going to be awesome and will be used by families visiting and living in the area. This project will need input from anyone that’s keen to help. Check out their details at: www.facebook.com/pages/Roy-Turner-Memorial-Playground-National-Park/1520085111543904
If you haven’t checked them out already – head over to the History tab of the Raurimu site for some amazing old images of the town. Pretty impressive libraries around the place! Thanks to Steve Cook of “Haven” on Poro Street for the ground work here.
Thanks to Tania our hardworking sectretary, here is the latest community newsletter. We have had some healthy early winter dustings on the mountain and things are feeling decidedly more like the ski season is just around the corner.
Hi folks, it’s that time of year again. Here is the agenda and previous minutes.
Hope to see you there.
We finally have enough snow for the west ridge quad to operate! Conditions have been amazing up on the hill and the village has seen a good steady flow of visitors and locals. Rob has been doing a few wee repairs to the water system but apart from that its BAU down here. The community notice board has been put up on the Main Street and looks set to handle all sorts of great info. I will report back with more details on procedure for posting material.
Great snow, no lines and world class views. Get down here and check it out!
Ok so yesterday’s snow has been a tad outdone by today’s absolute blast. Left the house at 3:30am to about 15cm everywhere. Trucks on the highway just parked where they got to. Two of which managed to tangle themselves at the top of the hill effectively closing down the only other remaining alternate road to the central north island…. Anyway, place is looking great! Most significant snowfall we have seen here yet (in 10 years).
Winter is here! Get your skis and boards ready, we have received about 15cm of snow at the base area at Whakapapa and the golf course is looking white…
